The Treaty Commissioner of Saskatchewan, Dr. Kathy Walker, and members of the OTC team were pleased to be able to join Elders, Knowledge Keepers and First Nations representatives at the Annual Treaties 1-11 Gathering held on the Tsuut’ina Nation, Aug. 11-22
The gathering brought together more than 1,000 participants—including leaders, elders, youth, and community members—from the numbered Treaty First Nations. This year’s discussions focused on the Five Pillars of Treaty: Citizenship, Nationhood, Lands, Fiscal, and Jurisdiction, with the goal of advancing sovereignty, strengthening responsibilities, and ensuring a strong future for the next generations.
“By coming together for the Treaties 1-11 we are strengthening our relations, governance, and commitments to future generations,” said Dr. Walker.
The Treaties 1-11 Gathering continues to serve as a space to reaffirm the Treaty relationships and build collective strategies to uphold the spirit and intent of Treaty.
